Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Graz

The Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery is strongly committed to excellence in patient care, education and inter-disciplinary research that brings current medical developments into clinical practice.
The field of Plastic Surgery ranges from breast reconstruction and wound healing to the treatment of scars and wrinkles. Plastic Surgery researchers study the effects of aging and disease on human tissue, new kinds of bandages to improve wound healing, certain cells in our bodies that can help wounds to heal without scars, and a wide range of other topics.
Patient Care

The surgeons and staff of the Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery provide individualized care in following fields:

• Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
• Hand Surgery
• Aesthetic Surgery
• Burn Surgery

Each field is tailored to meet the special needs of each patient and each field is led by the most experienced members of our division. For special illnesses (e.g. Breast Cancer,…) a team of medical staff works closely with colleagues in other specialties to ensure each patient's visit is a thorough and well coordinated way (e.g. Comprehensive Cancer Center, Vascular Malformation Center,..)

Every faculty member in the Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery is involved in research. Some conduct clinical trials, in which patients participate in the evaluation of new treatment options and new techniques. Some direct laboratories at the Medical University Graz, where they and their colleagues pursue new developments in Plastic Surgery and Regenerative Medicine research (Research Unit for Tissue Regeneration, Repair and Reconstruction).

Education and Teaching
The Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Medical University of Graz is committed to the education and training of tomorrow's doctors. Our educational programs in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery are dedicated impart outstanding clinical skills as well as deep commitment to academic and clinical research. Our curriculum fosters the development of leadership abilities in clinical practice while encouraging teaching and research in basic, clinical, and social medicine.

Educational opportunities provided and supported by the Division include:
  • A six-year residency program in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery 
  • Research Fellowships and Clinical Observerships
  • Clerkships for medical school students
  • Grand Rounds conference series and special lecture series, for the benefit of students, residents, faculty, and physicians in the community.
  • Occasional lectures and presentations offered by our faculty for doctors and others in the regional community interested in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery.
